mrbrown `Today' column suspended

This has nothing to do with tech.

I don't give much heed to what mrbrown says, as his issues don't concern me much. But he sure is funny. Since I like TRANSPARENCY, and since the entity which suspended him is a newspaper, and since a few thousand people visit this blog, just be informed of the suspension. Original here: http://www.mrbrown.com/blog/2006/07/regarding_today.html

Edit 6pm 7 July 2006: Also in the interests of TRANSPARENCY, I declare that at least 1 comment, by a user who calls himself IRCTP, who posted some comments not in line with that of most of the other commenters on the `regarding today' blogpost, was deleted by mrbrown at or around 5.45 pm today. To be clear, Mr. Brown has a right to delete that blogpost as he controls the site. It shows that in certain circumstances, he does not feel that open debate is the best thing.

Which is similar to the reputed government behaviour of course.

While I am not endorsing any censorship, I merely with to put on record and public view the act of deletion - which he did without notification or explanation.

Well, so much for the free speech his supporters have been talking about. - IrCTP

I cannot make any value judgments, I know too little and have too little interest in this kind of thing. My only interest, is to make clear, that Mr. Brown exercised his right to censorship.

Let those who are interested in this kind of thing, have that fact in consideration, when they make their own judgments.

Ko, I always respect the absolute right of the website owner, or blog owner, to delete any post he likes, ANY.

However, the act of deletion selective posts, is an act of censorship. Censorship is not necessarily an objective evil, but one can form an opinion of the general outlook, belief and morality of a person from looking at the act of censorship in its proper context.

In my case, I'm removing Mr. Brown's link from my link list. It has been there since the te kwa days. It is not with happiness that I remove it.

ko: I posted my series of comments to elicit an elightened response or to get people to think deeper into the issue. What I got in the end were (a) many missing the point entirely, (b) personal insults and vulgarities hurled at my nick, and (c) having some of my comments deleted.

I could have said more but because my words fell on many deaf ears on the first hurdle and that there is a huge risk in leaving such comments on Brown's blog, I have decided to give up.

If you consider me a troll, then perhaps you are one of the 95% who missed the point of all my comments completely, including the Brown man himself.

The previous comment was by IrCTP.

thats interesting. I would probably disagree. i see a lot of debate on the post and even quite a few (but not majority) negative posts.

Have you considered the possibility that there was a technical fault?

I'm sure mrbrown cant address every single differing view out there right? after all he's not one of those bloggers who write long posts about rights and stuff?

I also see a lot of trolling posts which strangely has been left up too.

I for one am not open to zero censorship. THere has to be a line somewhere such as trolls and hackers. I've left quite a few forums because of trolls spoiling the forums for normal discussion. I dont think there is any kind of meaningful debate with a troll. dont you agree? Trolls will persistently respond the opposite of what you say to bait you to pay more attention to him and ultimately hopes to get you to just give up posting normally.

as a fellow brown reader, i saw the posts in question, it definitely struck me as trolling.

As for open debate, i think that there are a lot of things that have happened recently and the rights for trolls to be heard, well i dont think should figure high on the poor man's list right now.

I see people asking him to justify this and that- asking him to come forward to explain how he earns his money etc. The poor guy is practically on trial for everything thats being posted- even his poor austic son playing in the rain is slammed by people.

(same guy as above)

third post by me- same guy.

just for the record (if an anonymous guy can have a record that is).

1. you judge too quickly mrbrown without all the facts

2. i do not like trolls. they should be banned.

3. from what i can see, mrbrown's site does allow trolls and even very negative comments (some well thought out, some just plain insulting). I see it all the time and still see it.

logically i just dont reach the same conclusions as you do.

It was a targeted removal of irctp's post and my posts acknowledging irctp's post. It is unlikely that it was a technical glitch.

As for your other points, I have really no opinion pertaining your opinions, and so I cannot comment.
